Liz was Editorial Director of Harcourt Children’s Books, where she worked for eighteen years. At Harcourt she published numerous bestselling and award-winning titles in all genres from young interactive titles to picture books to middle grade and young adult fiction and non-fiction. Since leaving Harcourt, Liz has been an independent editorial consultant for authors and agents; she teaches creative writing at the University of Pennsylvania; and was Editor-in-Chief of Black Dog & Leventhal Publishers until this month.
Some of the books Liz worked on were EACH LITTLE BIRD THAT SINGS by Deborah Wiles, a National Book Award finalist; BABY BEAR’S CHAIRS by Jane Yolen, illustrated by Melissa Sweet, a Golden Kite award winner; LET IT SHINE by Andrea Pinkney, illustrated by Stephen Alcorn, a Coretta Scott King Honor book; and LOU GEHRIG: THE LUCKIEST MAN by David Adler, illustrated by Terry Widener, a Boston-Globe Horn Book Honor Book.
Liz is known to her many devoted authors as a nurturing, patient, exacting editor who helps them do their best work, encourages them to push themselves, and never allows them to settle for anything less than their finest.
