GRETCHEN has nine years of experience in the children’s and YA book industry, on both the publishing and bookselling sides. She got her start as an editor at Harcourt Children’s Books where she worked on all genres and age ranges (from board books to YA), after working as a children’s department manager in a bookstore. Most recently she was associate editor at HarperCollins Children’s Books, where she primarily edited YA fiction, with a few picture books and middle-grade novels on the side. Titles she has edited include Jan Thomas' s What Will Fat Cat Sit On? and A Birthday for Cow!, Jessica' s Guide to Dating on the Dark Side by Beth Fantaskey, the Dark Guardian trilogy by Rachel Hawthorne, and The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting (forthcoming). She has also worked on select titles in the following series: Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard, Secrets of Dripping Fang by Dan Greenberg, HarperTeen’s beach reads series, and Mr. & Mrs. Green by Keith Baker. Areas of expertise include young picture books, board books, and young adult, though she has experience working on all age ranges. Gretchen is an avid reader of kids’ books, and some of her favorites are the pigeon series by Mo Willems, the Weetzie Bat books by Francesca Lia Block, The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks, and The Hunger Games.
